Geo data is an area within digital marketing that is particularly interesting. This is because you want to reach the right audience and in this often linked to a special geographical location. The geographic location can be a country, a city, etc.
When it comes to my Joomla website, which is built with multi-language features that can be linked to several different countries, it is of course important that visitors to the website are guided to use the website correctly in order to be able to take part in the information that I publish.
On my website there are several articles in several different languages. So if the webpage is visited by a reader from Birmingham, I want articles focused on United Kingdom to be displayed.
By asking the visitor about their geographical location, I can also guide the visitor in the right direction if consent is given. Everything is done easily and smoothly through a code function that integrates with the web visitor's browser (it's not "rocket research").
The code function does not make my Joomla website noticeably heavier, nor does it load the server in an abnormal way, which could impair my website's seo. Everything works very well and it is easy to implement this setup in most web systems that digital marketers use.
What does the feature look like on the front page of the website?
The image shows the function at the top right of the website. A short text says “Hello visitors from Stockholm, Sweden!” Followed by the text: “Your place….”Followed by the text: "Confirm your location and select flag".
It is precisely this that guides the web visitor/audience into the right channel on the web page.
In mobile browsers, the function is displayed as follows:
Phase 1, Note that the web visitor is asked for consent to the website wanting to know the visitor's geographic location. *Consent is required from the visitor in order to determine the visitor's geographic location.
If no consent is given, then the visitor's geographic location is not displayed on the web page.
Phase 2, the web page asks for the visitor's location, either the exact location or the approximate one. Here, too, consent is required from the web visitor.
Phase 3, and upon consent, the visitor's country and city are displayed. Which indicates to the web visitor that the Swedish flag should be selected.
And if the web visitor selects the Swedish flag, then the web page displays Swedish informative articles.
Depending on the type of browser the visitor uses: Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, etc., this geo-function is displayed but with a different layout depending on the type of browser used by the visitor.
So what are the disadvantages of installing this geo-feature on a website?
Some web visitors who are not faithful readers may be annoyed by having to state their geographic location in order to access the web page's information correctly. This can result in such web visitors leaving the website and thus the website owner loses a web visitor, thus deteriorating the website's organic traffic.
So when it comes to the geo function, the web developer has to weigh "pears against apples" and in this ask himself the question "can the geo function add more positive experience to the website than negative"?
This of course depends on how the website is created and whether it is multilingual or not. For my part, I only see advantages in using the geo function on the website. And in my assessment, the seo parameter is of course included. Being able to give the audience/readers the right information quickly is important. And this geo feature helps with that on my site.
The Geo feature is cut and dried for digital marketing and for content distribution on the web in a Joomla system. With commercial orientation or non-commercial orientation.
